Swiss cheese plants (Monstera deliciosa) are grown for their lush, glossy leaves. They add a contemporary, jungle like feeling to a room and are good air purifiers. The leaves are heart shaped when young and then become perforated as they mature, is called ‘fenestration’. Cheese plants are vining plants that are native to South America where they can grow and climb up trees using their roots.
Watering
Water when the top two inches of the soil is dry or when the weather is dry. The plant is also drought tolerant.
Feeding
Apply a half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer every month from spring to autumn. Top layer of soil annually in spring.
Planting and Care
Set in filtered sun or shade; shaded foliage will not
produce holes. Prune in spring, wipe leaves regularly to remove dust. Wipe with moist cloth or damp cotton. Repot every 2-3 years or replace top layer of soil annually in spring.
